2/28: for waterfront week 🎫

So… I teared up walking past Buddies Coffee this morning. Huge line down the block. If you haven’t seen, the owner and roaster behind this incredible Williamsburg coffee shop posted a video in a moment of heartbreak over rent increases and the fight to keep her Puerto Rican-owned shop alive in the historically Puerto Rican neighborhood. Seeing the overwhelming love for the small business (and its legendary Coquito Lattes) spilling onto Grand Street was another little thing that restored my faith in people and my love for New Yorkers. Even when there are big, shitty forces at work, we are surrounded by amazing people with good hearts.

It’s getting up to 55 degrees tomorrow! Beautiful blue sky to enjoy as you wait in line on lovely Grand Street for your coffee at Buddies.

Here are some other gems you can enjoy while you’re in the area…

• for vintage: 9-5 vintage, Grand St Local, Le Grand Strip, Seven Wonders, honestly so many great ones on Grand…

• for bars: Maracuja Bar, Midway Bar, Caribbean Social Club

• go wander and look at the water, it’s good for the soul :-)

Inspired by Rachel’s video to dive down the rabbit hole of Williamsburg’s history, I learned about Medea De Vyce- a drag artist in Williamsburg in the 90s who posted up in The Ship's Mast Tavern to publish a weekly zine, ‘Waterfront Week’ written for the neighborhood’s artist community and detailing the weekend’s goings-on.

This issue, and a piece of warmly from this moment on, is dedicated, in part, to Ms. De Vyce. <3
